Reading can help lifeguards in many ways
For lifeguards, reading is a thing that is used every single day. One of the things that beach lifeguards would always have to read is the signs that tell the lifeguard what each flag means, so they can know what type of flag to display to inform the swimmers. This also goes for lifeguards who patrol lakes too, because they have to also post signs about the current weather and the water's conditions.
If the lifeguard is an instructor, they would have to be constantly learning about the current swimming skills and breathing techniques, so they can teach their students and keep them up to date about it. There are also lifeguards that are coaches. The coaches would have to know the rules for the competitions, so they would have to read forms about them.
Some lifeguards would want to be experts at lifeguarding, so they would have to go to school to learn more about the skills. Everyone knows that schools involve tons of reading skills, so they would have to use reading every single moment. Some other lifeguards would also want to go the cheap way, and just read books about them. They would learn more in depth about different types of swimming strokes, or swimming skills, or just get more information and history about swimming or lifeguarding.
There is another source of literacy technique that lifeguards can use to broaden their lifeguarding knowledge. This method is called using technological devices. Some of the things that the lifeguards can look for is the weather. Lifeguards who work outside have to be up to date on their weather knowledge. Using the internet is a useful thing; after all it did change the world. The internet has abundant amount of information about lifeguarding skills. The lifeguards can get information from anyone in the world.

They get paid around $11.75 to $17.62 an hour.
There are many special tools that lifeguards use to fulfill their job
One of the most important things that lifeguards use are floating devices. Anything that is less dense than water or is buoyant is able to float. For example, coolers, ropes, or poles are able to be used as floatation devices when needed. These floating devices can save a person that is drowning and need assistance. The lifeguard would just throw the object into the water and tell the victim to grab on.
Lifeguards working environment and locations are numerous
Lifeguards who work at lakes would have to be up to date on the weather. They would have to look out for the strong currents that might be coming their way. Lifeguards also would have to look out for the wild animals that might be lurking in the woods, and keep the campers safe.
There are also lifeguards who work indoors. Some of the main indoor locations are private pools, resorts, hotels, or indoor pools. Indoor lifeguards also have different jobs from outdoor lifeguards. Some of the things that they have to do is clean and maintain the pools in working conditions.
Lifeguards also have different working environments. Lifeguards usually work in groups, because it takes a team to look over the whole area of a pool. Instructors work in groups all the time, but it also differs from the age range that the instructor is teaching. Most lifeguards work with young kids, but there are also instructors who work with elders. The instructors that teach elders would mostly teach water exercises. There are also special private instructors. They would teach an individual and give them private lessons.

J. Arthur Trudgen was an amateur English swimmer who traveled to South America. While he was there, he saw that the people there were swimming differently. After he figured out that this swimming method was better, he brought it back to his country. He later called this swimming technique, the Trudgen stroke, also called the back stroke.
Lifeguards have requirement too you know
No one would have thought that lifeguards were required to have some type of training or degree. The minimum amount of education that is required is a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED). Some of the classes that the lifeguards should have been taking are health and physical education classes. Lifeguards should be trained in first aid, so they can help save people that need medical help in any given conditions presented.
Lifeguards also have to get their certificate in Red Cross Advances Lifesaving to be a true lifeguard. This course last about six days and the lifeguards are tested on their swimming skills. Some of the things that the lifeguards would have to do are swimming 500 yards and tread the water for about one minute. Lifeguards have to perform first aid skills, physical endurance, and CPR. They also should remember to renew it every three years.
What Lifeguards mean to today's society and useful skills
Lifeguards are an important contribution to today's society. Lifeguards are responsible for saving people that are in danger near or around water. They would save distressed swimmers that are drowning, and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or first aid on them if needed. If there is no danger around their location, they would inspect for possible situations that would cause a crisis and prevent it. Lifeguards also have to enforce local laws or the facility law to prevent disasters from happening. They also have to clean their working environment, maintain it, and also keep it working in stable conditions.
Lifeguards sometimes have two jobs. They can be a rescuer in the morning and a teacher at night. Some lifeguards take up extra jobs like coaching or instructing. Instructors would teach people who do not know how to swim, the proper way to swim and breath. Coaches would educate swimmers, who are already experts in them, more in depth information. Coaches would also teach swimmers the correct way to breath and the new swimming techniques that are useful in competitions.
There are several useful skills for lifeguards to use every day in their job. One of them is that lifeguards should be an expert in swimming. If lifeguards are not an expert in swimming, they would not be able to save the victim that is drowning in time. Lifeguards should also be in good physical condition. They should be able to carry a person who is unable to move, or run as fast as they can to save the victim. One of the other major factors that are important to lifeguards is that they should be level headed, calm, and ready to react to any situations at any time. Accidents can happen at any given time, and lifeguards would have to react quickly.
