Lifeguards are an important contribution to today's society. Lifeguards are responsible for saving people that are in danger near or around water. They would save distressed swimmers that are drowning, and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or first aid on them if needed. If there is no danger around their location, they would inspect for possible situations that would cause a crisis and prevent it. Lifeguards also have to enforce local laws or the facility law to prevent disasters from happening. They also have to clean their working environment, maintain it, and also keep it working in stable conditions.
Lifeguards sometimes have two jobs. They can be a rescuer in the morning and a teacher at night. Some lifeguards take up extra jobs like coaching or instructing. Instructors would teach people who do not know how to swim, the proper way to swim and breath. Coaches would educate swimmers, who are already experts in them, more in depth information. Coaches would also teach swimmers the correct way to breath and the new swimming techniques that are useful in competitions.
There are several useful skills for lifeguards to use every day in their job. One of them is that lifeguards should be an expert in swimming. If lifeguards are not an expert in swimming, they would not be able to save the victim that is drowning in time. Lifeguards should also be in good physical condition. They should be able to carry a person who is unable to move, or run as fast as they can to save the victim. One of the other major factors that are important to lifeguards is that they should be level headed, calm, and ready to react to any situations at any time. Accidents can happen at any given time, and lifeguards would have to react quickly.
