For lifeguards, reading is a thing that is used every single day. One of the things that beach lifeguards would always have to read is the signs that tell the lifeguard what each flag means, so they can know what type of flag to display to inform the swimmers. This also goes for lifeguards who patrol lakes too, because they have to also post signs about the current weather and the water's conditions.
If the lifeguard is an instructor, they would have to be constantly learning about the current swimming skills and breathing techniques, so they can teach their students and keep them up to date about it. There are also lifeguards that are coaches. The coaches would have to know the rules for the competitions, so they would have to read forms about them.
Some lifeguards would want to be experts at lifeguarding, so they would have to go to school to learn more about the skills. Everyone knows that schools involve tons of reading skills, so they would have to use reading every single moment. Some other lifeguards would also want to go the cheap way, and just read books about them. They would learn more in depth about different types of swimming strokes, or swimming skills, or just get more information and history about swimming or lifeguarding.
There is another source of literacy technique that lifeguards can use to broaden their lifeguarding knowledge. This method is called using technological devices. Some of the things that the lifeguards can look for is the weather. Lifeguards who work outside have to be up to date on their weather knowledge. Using the internet is a useful thing; after all it did change the world. The internet has abundant amount of information about lifeguarding skills. The lifeguards can get information from anyone in the world.

The type of salary that lifeguards receive is depended on their facility, hours, and certification status. If the lifeguard is seasonal or temporary, they would receive only about $6.50 to $7.21 an hour. Lifeguards who are seniors and more experienced in it, they would receive about $9.21 to $13.50 an hour. The type of lifeguards that are paid the most are supervisors. They get paid around $11.75 to $17.62 an hour.
